"Be advised what thou dost discourse of, and what thou maintainest whether touching religion, state, or vanity; for if thou err in the first, thou shalt be accounted profane; if in the second, dangerous; if in the third, indiscreet and foolish."
Sir Walter Raleigh (1552–1618), English author, soldier, explorer.

If you're here, you know about "Surfing the Net" (or "Surfing the Web"). As a lot of folks know - but just as many apparently don't - there are TWO parts of the internet:

bullet

the World Wide Web (WWW) which is where you are now looking at all of these wonderful web pages; AND

bullet

the Usenet mailing side where messages fly back and forth by the trillions day after day in 'newsgroups' (not to be confused with e-mail with is virtually totally private!).

In addition, some companies (like CompuServe and America Online) offer content of their own and an internet portal which allows connection to the above.

We'll attempt to give you a bit of a primer on what to watch for - AND what to watch out for as you meander around in what might be totally unfamiliar territory. This section is designed for "newbies" (new or 'clueless' users); those familiar with browsing or newsgroups should feel free to ignore this section!

A site which we've found titled "Netiquette" is also good reading. Take a peek at it!

Another site supported by a U.S. Grand Lodge attempts to help parents know what's right and what's wrong about 'the Net' and offers some help for them. It's interesting reading - and yet another of the 'Masonic Charities' which are not counted among the millions of dollars Masons contribute each day to help others.... You can find this site here.
